Kathleen Felice Slonager, RN, AE-C - Executive Director
Serving the entire state of Michigan.
Since 1984 AAFA-MI has been providing education and training to those affected by asthma and allergies. We touch the lives of thousands in need through our many programs and services: Essentials for Childcare Providers © , Power Breathing™ (for young teens), Asthma Basics & Control © (for parents), and Asthma Management & Education (for clinicians), just to name a few. Anticipation builds each year for our annual scientific conference: the Emerging Science in Asthma & Allergy Management, and recently we added the Food Allergy & Asthma Expo to the programs we offer.
A variety of printed materials are available we well as guidance from a nurse and certified asthma educator – free of charge.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals affected with asthma and allergic diseases by promoting awareness through education, training and advocacy. We are able to do this because of the tremendous support we receive from generous individuals and businesses. We are also fortunate to receive grants from governmental agencies as well as private companies and foundations.
In Michigan, close to a million people have asthma; over 200 thousand of these are just kids! In fact, it’s the number one reason children miss school, go to the Emergency Room, or are hospitalized. Total costs of asthma in Michigan are over $460,000,000 per year – much of this is associated with out-of-control asthma!
For more information about AAFA-MI visit our Web site or give us a call – we’d love to hear from you!
