Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program Unveils New Branding to Enhance Consumer Awareness
The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program has unveiled a rebranded Certification Mark, providing a clear sign of science-backed products that help create healthier indoor environments through rigorous testing and consumer empowerment.
Washington, D.C., January 29, 2025 – The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program announces the rebranding of its Certification Mark, reflecting a renewed commitment to empowering individuals and families with asthma and allergies to create healthier indoor environments.
The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program, a collaborative initiative between Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), helps identify products more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. Products undergo independent testing to meet scientific standards established by the Program. Only products that meet those rigorous standards earn the Certification Mark.
The new Certification Mark features a streamlined, contemporary design that enhances visibility and adaptability. With a clean, modern look and a simplified color palette, the mark is now easier to identify on product packaging and online platforms. This bold yet straightforward design ensures clear identification of products that meet the strict certification standards, empowering consumers in their choice to create healthier indoor spaces.
The intersecting ellipses in the new Certification Mark are designed to evoke the shape of lungs, symbolizing a connection to breathing and well-being. For the over 100 million people in the United States with asthma and/or allergies, good respiratory health is critical.
“People spend 90% of their time indoors,” said Kenneth Mendez, President and CEO of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. “This underscores the importance of managing indoor air quality. Associating AAFA’s trusted name with this rebranded Certification Mark demonstrates our ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for people with asthma and allergies.”
Currently, over 200 products in the United States – including air cleaners, air filters, bedding products, cleaning products, flooring, insulation products, laundry products, paint, and vacuum cleaners – carry the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Mark. These products are tested and proven to help reduce exposure to allergy and asthma triggers and support better indoor air quality. The Certification Program aims to increase awareness about the importance of selecting certified products, and educate on ways to improve indoor air quality, while continuing to collaborate with retailers and manufacturers to expand certified options.
“The Certification Program is dedicated to scientific rigor,” said Dr. John McKeon, CEO of ASL. “With the growing scrutiny on any products claiming to play a role in mitigating asthma and allergy symptoms, our certification serves as a timely and trusted guide for consumers, ensuring that items have undergone thorough scientific testing to support healthier indoor spaces.”
As the Certification Program rolls out the new mark, it remains committed to ongoing research and development, and refining testing standards to adapt to the latest findings in asthma and allergy management, and indoor air quality.
